September 15, 2022

This weeks podcast I explore the snakey haired villain Medusa. But is she really a villain? Check out the podcast and see:

In the 1960s Hammer produced a cheesy but cool film about a sister of Medusa. Funny yet mesmerizing snake effects

Though not a Gorgon, I sure thought she was when I was a kid. I suppose the fact she was missing her body and her wild hair led me to that assumption.

One of my absolute favourite films as a teen. The snake body was a nice touch but is actually more in line with one of her siblings than her descriptions.

Humbaba - 2nd Milenium BC

Humbaba is a Mesopotamian moster and perhaps the source of the Medusa legend. His looks could kill, was decapitated and his head was carried off and offered to a god in a satchel. Not to mention he is often depicted with a lions mane that sometimes look like intestines…perhaps snakes.

My entry into the Medusa myth comes from a large wooden gear mold.
